Dr. Erandathie Lokupitiya,

Dr. Erandathie (Erandi) Lokupitiya has a Ph.D. in Ecology, focusing on climate change, greenhouse gas inventorying, and regional and national scale carbon budgeting in agroecosystems. She obtained her Ph.D. from Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory (NREL) of Colorado State University (CSU), USA, and served as a Research Scientist at the Department of Atmospheric Science of the same university for about four years, until she returned to Sri Lanka in 2011. Her research interests are mostly in climate change and carbon cycle research, and while working at the Atmospheric Science Department of CSU, she developed a fine resolution land surface model (i.e. SiBcrop) for predicting half hourly land-atmosphere carbon and energy exchanges in agroecosystems. She has served as a Co-Investigator and participating scientist in the North American Carbon Program (NACP) and led the agricultural model-data comparison under the NACP site-interim synthesis. She prepared the national greenhouse gas inventory for the Agriculture, and Land use, Land use change, & Forestry (LULUCF) sectors in Sri Lanka, which was included in the Second National Communication submitted by the Ministry of Environment or Sri Lanka to the United Nations Framework on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat. She has also worked as a national expert for the ‘Technology Needs Assessment on Climate Change’ project conducted by the Ministry of Environment, Sri Lanka. Currently Dr. Lokupitiya is serving as a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Zoology and Environmental Sciences of University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, and has been involved in teaching and awareness creation on Climate change as an important national and global environmental issue and currently she is involved in several national and regional scale projects concerning climate change impacts, mitigation and adaptation. She has published research articles in reputed international journals, and served as a Reviewer for a large number of international journals including Global Change Biology.
